As a racer you are probably aware of the cost of high performance sails, frequently with carbon content. But the stick in the middle of things frequently remains the same potentially reducing the full benefit the investment. An upgrade to a high performance carbon fibre spar will frequently cost you less than the sails which – in fact – are consumables.
Johan Bratt decided to do the right thing for his Dehler 45 Solong giving us the task to build a high modulus spar upgrade where one of the key features are twin runners on a crane. In first reef the squaretop will clear the runners which then can be permanently set for crusing.
