Ultra-light carbon composite auxiliary helicopter tanks manufactured by Marstrom Composite, initiating concept made by SMC (Scandinavian MediCopter) and designed by BAM (Bromma Air Maintenance) for Airbus EC/145 T2 helicopter is now approved by EASA (European Aerospace Safety Agency). An STC – Supplemental Type Certificate - for the auxiliary fuel tank was issued by EASA just before Easter.
The helicopter autonomy can be extended of an extra 15-20% by use of the new tank design. The carbon fiber composite light weight design saves 30-40% weight compared to same design and fit made of aluminum, which has also the disadvantage of complexity in manufacturing which is almost impossible to implement!
The carbon fiber composite light weight design has no negative impact for the cabin comfort and internal space.
Marstrom and BAM are proud to launch such innovative primary equipment for helicopter and to extend the same concept to other helicopter models.
